SMC Heritage are proud to present this incredibly under rated but not to be missed 2002 Toyota Corolla T-Sport – The thinking man’s Type R! A totally unmolested example with just 1 retired lady owner since 2003 that has covered just 37,648 miles.
The heart of the Corolla T-Sport is the much lauded 2ZZ-GE VVTLI 1.8 engine utilised by lotus for both the Elise and Exige. Toyota commissioned Yamaha to design the 2ZZ-GE, based on Toyota's ZZ for high-RPM operation and producing a power peak near the top of the RPM range by utilising Multi-point Fuel Injection, VVTL-i, and forged steel connecting rods. The 2ZZ-GE utilises a dual camshaft profile system (the "L" in VVTL-i, known by enthusiasts and engineers alike as "lift" similar to Hondas VTEC) to produce the added power without an increase in displacement or forced induction. The high-output cam profile is not activated until approximately 6,200 rpm, (lift set-points are between 6,000–6,700 rpm depending on the vehicle) and will not engage until the engine has reached at least 60 °C (140 °F).This resulted in a banshee of a naturally aspirated four-cylinder motor, with its stratospheric red line mated to a slick six-speed manual transmission.
Built in 2002 to UK Specification it was supplied new on September 2nd 2002 by
Vanatge Toyota of Colne in Thunder Grey metallic paint. Post-delivery the dealer also fitted genuine Toyota accessory Alloy pedals and Chrome tailpipe and noted them correctly in the book pack accessory installation record.
In April the following year (2003) the vehicle changed hands briefly before being purchased by Mrs Hornby who went on to cherish if for almost 17 years.
The car is supplied with all booklets and instructions in the original soft leather book pack including unused factory stickers and even an unused official Toyota paint touch up stickers. The history file is comprehensive with invoices to support the service stamps and the old MOT’s further validating the mileage. All keys are present including the security tag and the supplying dealer keyring. The tools and all present and the original pedal rubbers are still in a box in the glove box from the upgrade back in 2002.
With the one lady owner for almost 17 years and a well stamped service book, supporting invoices, old MOT’s and even a recent main dealer health check this really does stand out in a sea of abused thrashed examples.
Evidently having always been garaged the Thunder grey metallic paint is in fantastic order throughout with perfect factory shut lines and a deep glossy finish. The alloys are unmarked and all the badges are present and correct. The lights are un tarnished and undamaged. Only the subtle T-Sport styling, rear spoiler and the factory privacy glass give a slight hint to the performance on tap, this is very much a Q-car.
The interior is absolutely perfect, the black T-Sport trim is unmarked and taught with no signs of sagging bolsters or general wear. All the switch gear is in perfect working order and the carpets are unmarked having been protected from new by genuine T-Sport carpet mats. Aside from the supportive sports seats, only the subtle red R highlight on the gear knob and the genuine alloy pedal hint at performance available.
On the road it drives with all the smoothness and fluidity you that you only find with low mileage perfectly maintained examples. The interior and exterior are
Fantastic and with just 38,000 miles and one owner for 17 years this a rare find. As such it offers a fantastic opportunity to buy either a fun depreciation proof retro daily hot hatch or an enjoyable investment for the future. Given that low mileage good quality Civic Type R’s are both few and far between and now appreciating rapidly and 80’s performance Corollas are highly prized the Corolla T-Sport looks a shrewd investment.
If you are looking for the very best, most attractive and original example of this legend in the making you need to see this car.
The vehicle will be MOT’d and fully service by SMC Heritage prior to collection for complete peace of mind.
