Porsche 993 Background :

The Porsche 993 is the last of its kind, the pinnacle of air-cooled design and with just a 4 year production run it is the bridge from classic to modern 911’s. As such it has quite rightly won its place in the hearts and garages of enthusiasts and investors alike. They are modern enough to make the early cars and even the 964 seem archaic yet the proximity to the upright windscreen, the compact dimensions and the old-school interior and switchgear just ooze retro charm. The air-cooled motor has so much character compared to its water-cooled replacements, whirring and purring in its unique style.
Perhaps the pick of the “cooking” versions is the Targa. The Targa was introduced in the 1996 model year and debuting the so-called "greenhouse" system. A next generation retractable glass roof design that continued on to both the 996 and 997 Generations. The glass roof retracts underneath the rear window revealing a large opening and best of both worlds’ practicality. This system was a complete redesign, as previous Targa models had a removable roof section and a widened B- Pillar that acted as roll bar. The all new glass roof design allowed the 993 Targa to offer open air motoring whilst retaining the same side profile as the 911 coupe without the inconvenience of a soft top or impracticality of storing the removed top of the old system

Provenance and Service History:

Built in 1997 to C16 UK Specification it was registered on the 17/02/1997 by Glenvarigill Porsche Edinburgh. Incredibly from this point onwards the vehicles full ownership is fully documented and it has only ever been serviced by OPC’s apart from one service carried out by well respected specialist Portiacraft. The car is supplied with all booklets and instructions in the original black leather embossed book pack and an A4 Folder brimming with receipts, invoices and old MOT’s to support the service stamps further validating the mileage. So comprehensive is the history that the vehicle is onto its second Porsche service book. All keys are present along the tools, spare and Porsche inflation kit.

Evidently having always been garaged the L3AX Zenith Blue Metallic paint is in fantastic order throughout with perfect factory shut lines and a deep glossy finish. The glass roof is in perfect condition, the seals are also refreshingly free from damage and or wear. All lights, badges and trims including the heckblende are present, correct and free from fading, damage or discoloration. The Targa specific 17” Split rim Speedline alloys are factory correct, unmarked and shod with the correct Continental N rated tyres.

The interior is a fabulous place to reside. The electrically adjustable sports seats are finished in marble grey leather that perfectly co-ordinates with the metropole blue dashtop and the stunning exterior colour. All the switch gear is in perfect working order and the leather and carpets are unmarked. The carpets are still protected by genuine Porsche over mats. The boot area is effectively unused with absolutely no signs of loading damage or wear whatsoever and the all-important build sticker is still present

On the Road:

Perhaps unsparingly given the low miles and impeccable upkeep it drives with a time warp tautness you that you could only find with a low mileage perfectly maintained example. With a 0-60 in 5.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 172mph the 993 is certainly no slouch. However, where the 993 truly stands proud from the rest of its peers and modern rivals is on the road. It offers a superb sense of occasion and a visceral driving experience that many more modern and often vastly more powerful cars simply cannot replicate. The flat six is turbine smooth and surprisingly quiet at low revs but push the floor hinged throttle a little further and it comes alive as the air-cooled engine barks into life and echoes around you.

With just 52,375 miles, low owners and an impeccable service history this vehicle really stands out amongst its often poorly maintained, thrashed and previously damaged peers. Its condition is best described as time warp. The exterior and interior are quite simply superb. Looking at this car it is really is easy to see why contemporary road tests rated them so highly and why they are now so revered in the modern classic market place. If you are looking for one the very best, most attractive and original examples of this legendary model you need to see this car.

The vehicle has recently undergone a full Main Dealer Health Check and will be independently MOT’d prior to collection for complete peace of mind
