SMC Heritage are proud to present this incredibly special 1991 Peugeot 309 GTI with just 142 Miles (ONE HUNDRED AND FORTYTWO) and 1 owner from new!
Supplied new on Feb 27th 1991 by Charters of Aldershot Ltd Peugeot main agents in Cherry red with black and red velour seat trim.
About the 309 GTI:
Autocar and Motor Magazine voted the Peugoet 309 GTi as "Best Hot Hatch" for 3 years in a row, Max Power Magazine Quoted "The 309 GTi handles similarly to the 205 GTi BUT MUCH BETTER!!" and "The more you push this car, the BETTER it Gets!".
We believe this to be the lowest mileage example available anywhere in the world with just 142 miles covered from new. This coupled with just one registered keeper means this really is as good as it gets for collector, investor and show potential. The car is supplied with all booklets and instructions in the original plastic file. The original hard written order form, deposit receipts, unused handover checklist, Peugeot Talbot finance paperwork and even the completed but unsent Handover questionnaire are present alongside the 1991 Peugeot 309 Range and in car entertainment brochures. The Handover questionnaire is particularly interesting as it highlights some issues with the handover process and the lack of a test drive when ordering.
We also have on file the original blue V5, the original Charters tax disc holder and the original 6 months tax that expired 31/08/91 as well as handwritten correspondence with the supplying dealer and invoices for further parts ordered including OEM mud flaps and headlight protectors.
We believe the vehicle was then placed into storage whilst the owner worked overseas. It would remain in storage until its first MOT in 2016 with just 124 Miles on the clock. We have a copy of some communications between the owner and his insurance company from Oct 99 stating that the vehicle has only covered approx. 100 miles, is garage stored and immobilised by way of battery removable as he is unable to take it to have an immobiliser retro fitted as requested by the policy
All keys are still present and it even has the supplying dealer key ring and even the tax disc holder. The Jack is unused and still bares its original warning label.
Having spent 29 years in storage and evidently having never seen rain is in incredible condition. The factory Cherry red paint is deep and luscious having been detailed by our in-house team whilst preserving authenticity, for example the owner had had applied oil to the inner wings in the engine bay and several other areas for preservation in storage so these have been left untouched. The windows are all etched with the correct factory markings and as was usual at the time the vehicle registration. The bumpers, lights and badges are all correct and free from any damage or discoloration. The now almost impossible to find OEM headlight protectors and mudflaps are totally unmarked and free from any fading or general signs of wear.
Perhaps even more remarkable than the incredible condition of the paint work and trim is the underside of the vehicle. It could easily have just rolled straight off the factory floor, with factory wax and markings still in place it is an incredible testament to the sheltered life this 309 has lived.
The interior is a fabulous place to reside with factory sunroof and immaculate black and red velour trim. When you sit in this car you are transported back to the 1990’s. The carpets are also unworn and in perfect order. The switch gear is all present, correct, fully functional and unmarked. The car is still equipped with the factory fit Clarion 97001F tape head unit –Bryan Adams tape not included!
With just 142 miles its condition is best described as time warp. The exterior and interior are quite simply superb. On the road this 309 drives with all the smoothness and fluidity you that you only find with low mileage perfectly maintained examples. It is not hard to see why contemporary road tests raved about this 130bhp French beauty. The 205 GTI out sold the 309 GTI by 5 to 1 and there are now 15 times more 205 GTI’s left than 309 GTI’s, so with the good low mileage 205 GTI’s nudging north of £40k you can surmise that a 1 owner essentially delivery mileage 205 GTI could now comfortably break the £100k barrier. With this in mind this unrepeatable 309 GTI could well prove a shrewd investment.
If you are looking for the best, most attractive and original example of this legendary French GTI you need to see this car. Alternatively, if you are looking for a slightly more usable example we also have a stunning 15,000 example available too
The vehicle will be MOT’d and fully service by SMC Heritage prior to collection for complete peace of mind
