SMC Heritage are proud to present this incredibly special 1991 Honda NSX with just 1 previous UK owner that has covered just 43,000 km approx. 26,000 miles.
NSX Background – Mathematical symbols, F1 Aces and beating prancing horses:
The Honda NSX is an automotive icon whose story began back in 1984 with the HP-X Concept (Honda Pininfarina eXperimental) a 3.0 V6 engined rear wheel drive sports car to challenge Ferrari at a lower price point whilst surpassing them in both power and reliability. Honda put their considerable financial might behind the concept and it evolved to become the NS-X. NS-X stood for New Sportscar Unknown with X representing the mathematical symbol X meaning unknown variable.
The NSX was designed by a team led by Chief Designer Masahito Nakano and Executive Chief Engineer Shigeru Uehara It benefited from advanced aerodynamics and styling inspired by an F-16 fighter cockpit. The NSX became the world's first mass-produced car to feature an all aluminium body. It was powered by an all-aluminium 3.0 L V6 engine, which featured Honda's now legendary VTECH (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) system
At the time Honda was experimenting with the NSX, a certain Mr Senna was bombing around Suzuka as part of the McLaren Honda team in the 1,200bhp Honda-powered McLaren MP4/4. The Honda team was keen to see what the F1 world champion thought about the NSX prototype and he was quickly behind the wheel. His initial comments where according to Honda folklore: “I feel it’s a little fragile.” This was enough to set the chassis team back to work on the traction and increased stiffness of the chassis. As such the cars incredible ride has a lot to thank the late champ for. Arigato, Ayrton
Senna’s input certainly paid dividends and another F1 legend joined the party. Gordon Murray, the designer of the McLaren F1 supercar, stated that he used the NSX as the inspiration for the F1 after test driving many high performance cars and finding the NSX chassis performed the best. Murray stated that the design was “monumental” to sportscar design. He found that the car could easily have handled more power and attempted to convince Honda to develop a more powerful engine, but they declined. This resulted in Murray developing the F1 with a BMW engine, but he was so fond of the NSX that he bought one for personal use and drove it for 75,000km. Murray stated that the NSX was “dear to his heart”
Built in 1991 to JDM Specification it was first registered in Sept 1991 in Japan. The vehicle remained in Japan until 2015 when it was sourced for Export to the UK with approx. 37,000 km by Honda main dealer and import NSX specialists Balmer Lawn Group. Upon arrival in the UK they undertook the following documented works for the new keeper:
• Full Inspection of the vehicle including chassis and suspension components
• Full major service including all filters, fluids and belts
• Speedo changed to read MPH but maintaining odo in km to substantiate mileage
• Fitting of UK audio and Navigation (Modern Pioneer Double Din System)
• Removal and refurbishment of both alternator and steering rack
• Replace Battery
All of the above where completed by their in-house Honda Master Tech. Since then the vehicle has only been used sparing having only covered 5000 km in the UK.
We have the original Japanese Export certification along with all the paperwork from Balmer Lawn Group on file including a hand signed letter from the Sales Manager thanking him for his order and one from the Directors, post delivery thanking him again for his business. This is documented alongside various other correspondence, business cards and MOT certificates etc in a Balmer Lawn document folder.
In Dec 2018 the vehicle was serviced by Performance Autoworks noted Honda specialists. The vehicle has been given a full inspection in our workshops and has recently been to Cheshire Oaks Honda for a brake fluid change. It will be fully serviced and MOT’d by SMC prior to collection.
Sebring Silver is perhaps the most desirable of NSX hues thanks to a certain Mr Wolf of Pulp fiction fame. The metallic paint is in fantastic order throughout with perfect factory shut lines a deep glossy finish and only a couple of very minor stone chips to detract. The period upgrade Enkei alloys are unmarked and fitted with brand-new matching Dunlops. The car also benefits from a high-quality upgraded RS-R stainless exhaust.
Underneath and Under the bonnet:
The roads of Japan are totally salt free and as such the underside of this NSX is in fantastic order. The RS-R exhaust is jewel like in finish without being over baring either in terms of aesthetics or tone. Under the bonnet is equally impressive, the factory space saver still in place and to the rear the cam covers are still in the correct factory black and thankfully free from chipping.
The interior is a fabulous place to reside with the black electrically adjustable leather perfectly co-ordinating with the stunning exterior colour. All the switch gear is in perfect working order and the leather and carpets are unmarked. The dash is unadorned with additional gauges etc and all in in perfect working order. The new double din Sat Nav head unit whilst modern in terms of functionality is pleasing retro in styling and fits the interior ambiance. The carpets are unmarked and still protected by genuine Honda deep pile over mats.
With just 43,000 km (26,000 miles) and having been handpicked by a notable NSX Specialist this vehicle really stands out amongst its often thrashed and previously damaged peers. It has certainly come from a good home, we found goodwood ticket stubs in the glove box rather than the McDonalds receipts more common at this end of the market. Both exterior and interior are quite simply superb. The wheels are absolutely as new and wear a brand new set of matching premium tyres. On the road this NSX drives with all the smoothness and fluidity you that you only find with the lowest mileage and best maintained examples. It really is easy to see why contemporary road tests rated the NSX so highly and why they are now so revered in the modern classic market place.
If you are looking for a well priced, attractive and original example of this legendary modern classic you need to see this car.
The vehicle will be serviced and MOT’d by SMC prior to collection for complete peace of mind
