The Z3M Convertible is one of the most unique and fun driving machines to come out of BMW since the legendary E30 M3. This incredible “as new” example is finished in the best colour of M Power exclusive Estoril Blue Metallic and has covered just 6700 miles from new with just one owner until 2020
The iconic M Roadster was first unveiled at the 1996 Geneva motor show, though production did not begin until later that year. It was designed as the performance version of the BMW Z3, and there were significant differences between the two variants including front and rear bumper modifications, and other subtle aesthetic changes. Under the skin many of the components were beefed up with the rear suspension being derived from the E30 M3 and the front suspension and brake system being taken from the E36 M3 Evo. Based on the E36 platform, the Z3 Roadster was known internally as the E36/7. The M Roadster could run a wider track under the flared wheel arches as well as wider wheels and tyres to try to tame the increased power. A dual exhaust system fed each set of three cylinders to two dual tailpipes. The Z3 M roadster was the first BMW to feature this quad exhaust design, which has since become a BMW M division signature.
The interior had a different look to the standard Z3. The sport package M-version steering wheel was standard on the M, and there was different instrumentation such as an oil temperature gauge. Finally, the car was available in M-specific colors, which were not released for the regular Z3, at least in the early production years (not counting BMW's Individual program).
Until 2001 the Z3M had the running gear from the E36 BMW M3 with the S50 3.2ltr 6 cylinder engine producing 317bhp from the later cars utilising the S54 3.2 from the E46 M3 with 321 BHP
Supplied new by Evans Halshaw BMW of Tring on the 31st March 1999 with the all-important running in service completed on the 29th of November 1999. Ordered in stunning M model specific Estoril Blue with matching Estoril Blue and Black two tone nappa leather and blue hood. The car has remained in the care of BMW ever since.
We have on file the original new vehicle order form dated 31/08/1998 and invoice dated 31/03/1999 on file. The purchaser Mr Stevens ordered the vehicle with the following options:

*Interestingly there appears to have been an issue in the spec ordered as the vehicle was delivered without the CD Changer and Harman Kardon Hi Fi. Consequently, Mr Stevens received a discount and the vehicle was quickly dispatched to Berkshire Car Sounds to have the following professionally installed at the cost of over £2000:

The hardtop was also later supplied by Tring BMW in April 2002.
Also supplied with the car are the original leather book pack complete with all handbooks, stamped up service book, audio security cards, a large file of invoices, old MOT certificates, the original Tax disc holder and even the business card of the salesman in 1998. The unused tonneau cover, tool kit, tyre repair kit and the un-opened first aid kit are all also still present
Having always been garaged the iconic Estoril Blue metallic paint is incredible with a deep glossy shine. The body is totally free from dents and stone chips and the panel gaps are even and totally original. The M specific RoadStar wheels are totally original, unmarked, un-refurbished and fitted with brand new matching continental tyres. The barely worn original and now discontinued Dunlop tyres are also included for potential concourse use but are sadly too old for road use. The M specific spoilers, badges and trim are all present and totally immaculate. Both the rare genuine BMW hardtop and the factory black soft top are totally as new.
Underneath and under the bonnet:
Perhaps even more remarkable than the incredible condition of the paint work and trim is the underside of the vehicle. It could easily have just rolled straight off the factory floor, with factory wax and markings still in place. The underside has now been treated with Bilt Hamber to keep it as good as new. The engine bay is equally impressive, totally standard and spotlessly clean it is an incredible testament to the care this Z3M has received.
Hmmm, new car smell. The two-tone Nappa leather sports seats are in incredible condition. Totally free from any damage or wear to the bolsters, the leather remains factory fresh and feeling supple throughout. The black and blue combo extends to the door cards and centre console, all in superb order with no scratches or marking to the trim. Fitting with the incredible mileage the often tired, high contact areas of the cabin such as the M steering wheel and gear knob show almost no signs of any use. The carpets are perfect throughout having been protected in the footwells by an original set of black overmats. The boot area is effectively unused with absolutely no signs of loading damage or wear whatsoever.
On the Road:
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the incredible mileage it drives with a time warp taught fluidity you that you could only find with a low mileage perfectly maintained example. This Z3M boasts 235bhp per tonne thanks to the S50 317bhp engine from the E36 M3 giving an impressive 0-60 of 5.1 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 155mph. No slouch even by modern standards but even more than that it offers a superb driving experience that many modern and often vastly more powerful cars simply cannot replicate.
In incredible condition and with just over 6,700 miles documented this really is as new and offers a fantastic entry in to modern classic ownership. As either a depreciation proof low mileage daily driver, a weekend toy to polish, show and enjoy or perhaps most likely a solid investment piece to add to your collection. With good M cars quickly appreciating and Z3M Coupe prices sky rocketing the cabriolet version is currently undervalued in the market and therefore a shrewd investment.
